SNAP! was formed by two former special education teachers with over 26 years combined experience in the nation’s second largest school district.

Betty’s story: Betty began as a para-professional, then sought her teaching credential and began teaching math in the special day program at the high school level. She then gained her master’s degree in special education. Betty continued to teach with passion, but later left the classroom to pursue a opportunity as a specialist in order to better serve students with emotional and learning disabilities. She also has experience as a parents with a student with a 504 plan.

Jenny’s story:  Jenny was a special education T.A., then special day teacher, then services coordinator. She left teaching after feeling frustrated and saddened by the lack of care and expertise granted to such a deserving population. She saw my students’ rights trampled. Their parents were powerless. They lacked the knowledge and confidence needed to advocate for their children. Jenny has personal experience advocating for her own children, who both received speech and language, occupational therapy, and physical therapy from the regional center and later, their local district.
